Job Summary:

 Our client, a leading manufacturer and distributor of soaps and other cleaning detergents. We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Export Sales Manager to lead our sales efforts in the West African region. The ideal candidate should be fluent in both English and French, with a proven track record of driving sales growth, building strong customer relationships, and navigating the complexities of the West African market. This role requires a strategic thinker with excellent communication skills, cultural sensitivity, and a deep understanding of export processes and international trade regulations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Sales Strategy & Market Expansion:
  2. Develop and implement a comprehensive sales strategy to achieve revenue targets in the West African region.
  3. Identify new business opportunities, markets, and potential clients to expand the company’s footprint.
  4. Conduct market research to understand regional trends, customer needs, and competitor activities.
  5. Client Relationship Management:
  6. Build and maintain strong relationships with existing and potential clients, distributors, and partners.
  7.  Act as the primary point of contact for clients in the region, ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction.
  8.  Negotiate contracts, pricing, and terms of sale to maximize profitability while maintaining customer loyalty.
  9. Export Operations & Compliance:
  10. Oversee the end-to-end export process, including order processing, documentation, and logistics coordination.
  11. Ensure compliance with international trade regulations, customs requirements, and export/import laws in both the home country and West African markets.
  12. Collaborate with internal teams (logistics, finance, and legal) to ensure smooth execution of export operations.
  13. Team Leadership & Collaboration:
  14. Lead and mentor a team of sales representatives and support staff to achieve regional sales targets.
  15. Collaborate with cross-functional teams (marketing, product development, and supply chain) to align sales strategies with company objectives.
  16. Reporting & Analysis:
  17. Prepare regular sales reports, forecasts, and performance analyses for senior management.
  18. Monitor sales metrics, market trends, and customer feedback to adjust strategies as needed.
  19. Cultural & Language Expertise:
  20. Leverage fluency in English and French to communicate effectively with clients and stakeholders across the region.
  21. Demonstrate cultural awareness and adaptability to navigate diverse business environments in West Africa.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Education:
  2. Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, International Trade, Marketing, or a related field. A Master’s degree is a plus.
  3. Experience:
  4. Minimum of *5-7 years* of experience in export sales, international business development, or a similar role.
  5. Proven experience working in or with the *West African market*, with a strong understanding of regional dynamics.
  6. Experience in managing distributors, agents, and direct sales channels.
  7. Skills:
  8. Fluency in English and French (both written and spoken) is mandatory.
  9. Strong negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  10. In-depth knowledge of export documentation, Incoterms, and international trade regulations.
  11. Proficiency in CRM software, Microsoft Office Suite, and sales analytics tools.
  12. Ability to travel frequently within the West African region (up to 50% travel).
  13. Personal Attributes:

  15. Cultural sensitivity and adaptability to work in diverse environments.
  16. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure.
  17. Self-motivated, proactive, and able to work independently.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in FMCG, manufacturing etc.
  • Existing network of contacts and relationships in the West African market.
